Malaysia is the latest country to join the exciting bandwagon of countries that are offering visa-free entry to Indians for up to 30 days. With Malaysia allowing visa-free entry for Indians, citizens can now travel to 60 countries without a prior visa.
So what is visa-free travel and how does this work? We Explain!

What does it mean to Indians?

According to the latest Passport Index by Henley and Partners 2023, Indian passport holders can travel to up to 60 countries without a visa. This list includes countries providing facilities like visa-free travel, visa-on-arrival facilities and Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA).

But this facility enables travellers to stay in the particular country only for a certain period of time.

How does Visa-free Travel Work?

Visa-free travel enables passport holders to enter a country without the need to obtain a visa before, or upon, arrival. That said, they must still pass through an immigration control facility where their passports are checked for validity, and may also be stamped.

It allows visitors to travel to a country with no visa fees and with no need to pre-plan or collect documentation.

And what is Visa-on-arrival?

Visa-on-arrival are issued when the visitor arrives in a country. Travellers need not apply for a visa beforehand. Government authorities generally examine the visitor’s passport and may collect any applicable fees before issuing the documentation.

It is easier to obtain a visa-on-arrival because all of the required steps are performed in one location, and the applicant will not need to visit the country’s consulate or embassy beforehand.

Bottomline

According to the latest rankings, Singaporean citizens can travel visa-free to most countries (193), and their passport is the strongest among every country in the world. The stronger the passport, the more countries the holders can travel to visa-free.

In contrast, the Indian passport still falls under the category of the least powerful passports in the world, standing at the 86th rank in the latest rankings.
