Narayan Sakaar Hari aka Bhole Baba is a self-styled godman and hails from Etah district UP and claims to be a former employee of the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

A tragic stampede at a Satsang in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district resulted in the deaths of over 100 people and left many others injured. The incident occurred at the conclusion of a satsang conducted by Narayan Sakaar Hari, also known as Sakaar Vishwa Hari or Bhole Baba.

What Happened?

Initial reports say that the stampede was a result of overcrowding and suffocation and it started soon after people rushed out of the venue after the satsang concluded as it was very hot and humid inside the venue.

Jyoti, a teenager who was at the event and later admitted to the nearby hospital said that everyone wanted to get out of the enclosure in a hurry and there was only one exit and people fell on each other leading to the stampede.

What The Authorities Are Saying?

Inspector general (IG) Aligarh Range - Shalabh Mathur said prima facie, some people among the gathering which mostly had women and children, felt suffocated at the premises because of the hot and humid weather and rushed out, resulting in a stampede.

CM Yogi Adityanath later announced ex gratia assistance of ₹2 lakh each to the kin of the deceased and ₹50,000 for those injured. The religious preacher reportedly had sought permission to hold the congregation which was given.

Who is Narayan Sakaar Hari?

Narayan Sakaar Hari aka Bhole Baba is a self-styled godman and hails from Etah district UP and claims to be a former employee of the Intelligence Bureau (IB). He allegedly left his government job 26 years ago to begin delivering religious sermons.

Today, he has millions of followers across India, including in western Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Delhi. He gained attention for continuing to draw large crowds despite restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Shocking Revelations About The Incident

The reports said that more than five thousand people had assembled at the congregation. The venue in which the devotees had assembled was small and the exit was also too narrow to allow many people to go out together.

Some reports said that the organisers closed one of the exits to allow the cavalcade of the narrator - Narayan Sakaar Hari, which resulted in increased pressure on the other exit. A high level committee was formed to investigate the cause of the stampede, officials said.
